Now in its 14th year, it’s a chip-timed 5 mile (approx.) mixed terrain race set largely within the 220 acres of Porthkerry Country Park with stunning views of the Bristol Channel and Glamorgan Heritage Coast. This race has established itself as a popular fixture on the local running calendar and hosted the prestigious Welsh Short Course Trail Championship in 2015. It sold out in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
The course is challenging enough for experienced runners but is equally suited to newer runners looking to try a short mixed terrain race.
Facilities & Race HQ
The race headquarters will be in the Forest Lodge log cabin, located near Mrs. Marco’s Café.
Car parking is available near the race headquarters but is limited. Please consider car sharing wherever possible.
Facilities at the park are limited; there are no changing rooms but there are public toilets at the car park near the start/finish area.
Mrs. Marco’s Café will be open before and after the race serving food and refreshments. It has a large decked area with wonderful sea views.
The Porthkerry 5 MT race is run on a mixture of surfaces including open grassland, woodland paths, trails and tarmac paths in a roughly figure-of-eight course. It includes two challenging hill climbs, fast flat sections and downhills.
The course can be slippery underfoot so it’s recommended runners wear good road shoes or trail shoes (no spikes).
