New Course for 2022

We've modified the course for 2022 to stay (95%) within the park and to make for a faster overall race.  This is the final course lay-out after a couple of tweaks.

  • The 'popular' climb up to Porthkerry Leisure Park has gone, replaced by a flatter loop around and through Porthkerry viaduct.
  • Also back is the fast last mile, half of it down through the wooded area of Cwm Barri.
  • There's one new climb to contend with at about 3 miles in - up from Cwm Barri into the '4 Fields'.

Other aspects of the course, that have made it such a popular race over the years, have been retained, including the switchback at the end of the first mile.

And no 'Golden Stairs' to contend with either (well, not this year).

True to its 'mixed terrain' name, surfaces including open grassland, woodland paths, trails and stone paths. It includes challenging hill climbs, flat sections and fast downhills. The course can be slippery underfoot so it’s recommended runners wear good road shoes or trail shoes (no spikes).
